LAAX OPEN 2021

Vergangene Woche begannen am Dienstag, den 19. Januar die LAAX OPEN. In den Disziplinen Slopestyle und Halfpipe gingen die besten Fahrer der Welt an den Start, um wichtige Punkte für die Olympiaqualifikation zu sammeln und um natürlich einen der renommiertesten Titel im europäischen Kontestgeschehen zu gewinnen.

Die diesjährigen LAAX OPEN waren ganz anders als alle die Jahre zuvor, denn auch hier gab es strenge Corona Verhaltensregeln an die sich jeder zu halten hatte. Größter Unterschied war wohl, dass keine Zuschauer erlaubt waren und dass es auch keinerlei Parties gab, die ansonsten bei solchen Veranstaltungen natürlich nicht fehlen dürfen. An dieser Stelle ein riesen Lob an alle Organisatoren, Helfer und Mitglieder der verschiedenen Crews, die alle hervorragende Arbeit geleistet haben und es erst möglich gemacht haben, dass der Event überhaupt stattfinden konnte.

Glücklicherweise spielte wenigstens das Wetter nicht verrückt und der Event konnte wie geplant durchgeführt werden. Am Freitag gab es die Slopestyle Finals der Männer und Frauen und am Samstag Abend gab es dann, als krönende Abschluss des Events die Halfpipe Finals.

Beeindruckend war, dass in jedem Finale, bis auf das Slopestyle Finale der Frauen, überall ein deutscher Fahrer dabei war. Aber was nicht ist kann ja noch werden, denn Potential ist da. Anika Morgen startete für Deutschland und konnte sich leider nicht für das Finale qualifizieren. Wir glauben fest an Annika und können es kaum erwarten sie nächstes Jahr im Finale zu sehen.

Im Slopestyle Finale der Herren hat sich Leon Vockensperger den 2, Platz gesichert, im Halfpipe Finale der Frauen konnte Leillani Ettel den 5. Platz belegen und im Halfpipe Finale der Herren, verpasset Andre Höflich um 5 Punkte einen Platz auf dem Podium. Alles in allem war es ein beeindruckender Contest, der wiedermal gezeigt, dass sich Snowboarden in den letzten Jahren von einer Randgruppensportart zu einer Massensportart entwickelt hat, die nun mittlerweile auch seit knapp 20 Jahren bei Olympia vertreten ist.

Wir hoffen inständig, dass ab nächster Saison wieder Normalität bei Veranstaltungen einkehren kann, denn sowohl im Profi- als auch im Amateur Snowboarden gehören Veranstaltung zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil der Kultur.

Nochmals vielen Dank an LAAX und die Snowpark Laax Crew für die tolle Umsetzung des Events und hoffentlich kann im kommenden Jahr alles wieder unter normalen Bedingungen stattfinden. Wir von go-shred wünschen allen alles GUTE und hoffen, dass vor allem die Deutschen und auch die Franzosen ihre Resorts schnellmöglich öffnen damit der Frust bei allen Schreddern, die bis jetzt noch nicht in den Schnee kamen nicht das Fass zum überlaufen bringt.

ENGLISCH VERSION

Last week on Tuesday, January 19th 2021 LAAX OPEN officially started. The world snowboarding elite meets up in Laax to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle in order to collect points for the Olympics and for sure to get one of the most prestigious titles in European Snowboard history.

This year the LAAX OPEN was totally different compared to the previous years due to Corona. There were all different kinds of behavioural rules to follow, but nevertheless, thanks to that Laax Open could take place. At this time I want to say thank you to all organizations, helpers and to all the different crew members who did a great job and made the LAAX OPEN possible. Luckily the weather was quite nice and all the Qualifications, Semi-Finals and Finals could take place. On Friday there were the Slopestyle Finals for Women and Men and on Saturday as the crowning glory, the Halfpipe Finals. We were stoked to see so many Germans in the Finals. Unfortunately, there was no German participation in the Women Slopestyle Finals. In the Semi-Finals, we had German Starter Annika Morgan who couldn’t make it to the Finals, but we believe in her and can’t wait to see her next year shredding in the Finals.

In men slopestyle Finals we were so hyped to see Leon Vockenperger taking the 2nd place for himself. In Halfpipe women, Finals Leillani Ettel ended up on 5th place and in the Halfpipe Men's Finals Andre Höflich ended up 4th. Just 5 points away from a podium place. All in all, it was a great contest and showed once again that snowboarding which started as a hobby for a few friends is nowadays a mass sports which is for nearly 20 years part of the Olympic Games. We can only hope that in the next season “normality” is coming back because events like these are a very important part of the snowboarding culture. We wish you all the best and hope that the German and French Resorts will open their doors better sooner than later so that all those shredders who couldn’t touch the snow till now, will get the possibility to ride as well.
